A woman in one picture bears a pale face in the flash, and in this way the confusion and anxiety in her eyes stands out all the more clearly. The quiet background evokes a world full of conflicts and tensions. On the other hand, Kets' boundary-less composition provokes more curiosity about the heroine: where is she? What has happened and what will come next? The attraction of Kets' works turns the viewers into participants who unconsciously fall into the picture.
“I never ask for permission before I take photos, otherwise the magic of the split-second will disappear,” Kets says. His works are always in the present continuous tense, unlike more commercial products. Four hands, each holding a goblet, depict a simple yet subtle world: what is the relationship between the owners of those hands? What is the purpose of the gathering? The photographer has portrayed a scene with motion in a motionless picture-there is no beginning and no end; a short flash of a moment has been endowed with infinite possibility.
